Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas
by Natasha Yim
illustrated by Grace Zong
It's Chinese New Year and mum has sent Goldy to the panda family next door to wish them Kung Hei Fat Choi and to gift them some turnip cakes. But when she goes round reluctantly, she drops the cakes, finds no one at home and instead discovers... 3 bowls of congee, some rather nice comfy chairs and a cosy futon. A retelling which improves on the original and which works also as an early introduction to Chinese New Year traditions and as a tale about reaching out to new friends. 'As well as the fun retelling, the nice explanation of Chinese New Year and the appealing characters, I really liked the gentle message that if you make a mistake or get something wrong, you can put it right again! Very sweet and I'll be recommending it for stock in our nurseries' project collections' (Elena, Community Librarian, Letterbox Library reviewer). Includes some lovely back notes on Chinese New Year and a recipe for turnip cakes (which includes NO turnips!) Age 4-7, American Import Paperback 30pp
