The Gingerbread Bees

retold & illustrated by Louise Green & Year 2 children (Rock House Primary, Manchester)

Ref: 2414

In a busy Polish town called Torun, many, many centuries ago, a baker's apprentice, Bogumil, has a special gift for baking delicious gingerbreads. One day, on a forest walk, he rescues a drowning Queen Bee and is rewarded by the fairy queen with a special pot of forest honey for him to dollop into his gingerbreads, which, in turn, brings him further good fortunes! Beautifully illustrated through photographed papier-mâché and tissue paper collages from the children (the fairy queen's silver doily wings are a treat!)! Initiated and published by the wonderful Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Educational Trust: "our storybooks are produced in collaboration with Manchester schools and aim to celebrate the creativity of children and teachers in our multicultural city". Age 5-8, Paperback 18pp
