by Bob Graham
We are, quite unashamedly, huge fans of Graham. There is always splendid detail in his illustrations which capture diverse communities of people. And, again, always, he presents small, seemingly insignificant, actions or events which nevertheless have a vast, universal and unifying effect across space and time. Here, as Jodie goes to draw a silver button on her duck picture, her baby brother-Jonathan- takes his first step, just as a child avoids the cracks in the pavement outside, just as a baby is born in a hospital and a tanker heads out to China and...Jonathan stumbles forward back on to his little pink knees. Joyful, life affirming, full of humanity- and endorsed by Amnesty International UK. Age 4-7, Paperback 29pp
