A Black child, their Grandad (who wears a hearing aid) and a dog act out an adventure on a wild and windy beach.

by Dianne Hofmeyr
illustrated by Carol Thompson

There's a bellowing storm taking off outside Grandpa's beach cottage. That can only mean one thing: "Let's hunt for storm dragons!" says Grandpa. And so Grandpa and child and Coco the dog fetch their spyglass and shield, stomp their way down the wooden walkway and follow the dragon necklace all the way down to the phawing, roaring salty waves. Do they dare confront the mighty monsters?

A truly gorgeous, outdoors-all-weathers, adventure full of clamorous sound words-Clatter! Harumph! Galumph!- within a beautifully evoked natural landscape. Stars a flipflopped Grandpa who excels in creative play (nb also wears a hearing aid) and a totally gripped grandchild. 'What atmospheric illustrations; you really get drawn in to them. Great to see an active young Black girl having an adventure with her grandad and dog, taking risks and having such a good time' (Rosalind, Project Dev. Mgr., PACEY, Letterbox Library reviewer). 'A lovely book- love the stormy weather being an opportunity to play out, not stay indoors' (June, Parent, Letterbox Library reviewer). Age 3-7, Paperback 24pp
