The Big Dance is “all of us. It’s where we are all the same and all different. Where we can all be ourselves together. It’s where we all belong”.
Poppa tells Pippa that everyone, but everyone, is excited about the Big Dance and he reassures her that every single body has a dance in them, from Kit’s Quiet Leaf Dance to Sweet Moo’s Trotting Trot dance. But Pippa isn’t convinced; she just doesn’t feel leafy or trotty enough. She tries and tries to find her inner moves, but just ends up in an almighty Grump. Can she discover them in time for the big day?
A lovely book which prizes unity over competition, showing that anyone can join in, with or without any special skill- they just need to work out what they enjoy doing, even if that’s just enjoying being silly. ‘Loved this story about finding yourself, how it’s okay to be an individual and that individuals all go together to make harmony, joy and have fun together’ (Rosalind, Project Dev. Mgr., PACEY, Letterbox Library reviewer). ‘I liked the message, told simply, that it’s not about fitting in but about wanting to join in’ (Jayne, Inclusion Manager, Letterbox Library reviewer). [One of the anthropomorphic creatures is a wheelchair user]. Age 3-7, Paperback 30pp
