illustrated by Louise Forshaw
A boardbook which enjoys the full diversity of families and family life with fun lift-the-flaps for toddlers to explore. Families can be teeny or enormous, live in brick houses or mobile homes, celebrate Lunar New Year or Hanukkah, go to work or may unable to work. Each second page features a child who introduces their family -under the flap!- and then asks the reader questions about theirs. Portrayals include blended and foster families, families headed by a single parent (dad) and two mums and a family where the child is raised by their grandparents. Ends with a large family tree and a lift-the-flap Q&A to see what the reader has remembered. (One of the eight featured children, Sam, wears a cochlear implant and there are some background wheelchair user images). ‘A book that really shows a full range of families. Good to see foster families represented. Questions to engage children before lifting the flap. Lots to talk about’ (Rosalind, Project Dev. Mgr., PACEY, Letterbox Library reviewer). Age 2-5, Boardbook 18pp
