Subtitled ‘A first book to build confidence and self-esteem’, this book really does do exactly what it says on the tin. Two small children start the day with Daddy by looking in to the mirror and speaking a mantra out loud: “I am brave!” “I am strong!” “I am kind!” This leads in to a sequence of double page spreads, one per day/mantra, which illustrate these aspirations from daring to play on the big slide to swinging on the climbing frame to hugging a friend who feels sad. Ends with a Saturday and Sunday full of family love, with a good dose from Mummy, Granny and Grandpa. Written by the founder of Dope Black Dads, an online, male parenting, community (& podcast). Family structure could read as a solo parent or as one where the parents are separated or one where a parent is away during the week.
