Rain, sun and snow are introduced through mini-stories and a clever split page device which allows readers to track the action. So, for example, “Rain” shows a dad, child and toddler outside, spotting incoming dark grey clouds. The split page turns to reveal a rain shower- we see them with umbrella, rain mac and pulled up pram cover while background characters run for cover. The final split page shows the sun coming back out, a rainbow appearing and the family stomping happily in the puddles. The book also introduces different time pieces which log the progression of time throughout the pages, including towering clocks and digital screens in public places, a sun dial and wrist watches. There are lively characters everywhere making maximum use of the different elements, splashing in paddling pools, sledging and building snow people. 
 
Child’s Play publishers are famed for their inclusive illustrations. Here these include different skin tones/hair styles, a woman in a headscarf and a child with a stoma bag/ostomy pouch just visible above his swimming trunks (plus a welcome breastfeeding image).
