illustrated by Diane Ewen
The start of a brand new superhero, slash dino, series where household objects and toys come eerily to life……. and Dino Dad and Dino Mum get an excellent result!
Meet your new superhero, Max. Or, rather, Kid Rex. Kid Rex has his costume on standby and a whole armoury of gadgets from his Frisbee/Dino Disc to his high tech, hero-bespoke, mutating vehicle: a net-activating Dino Jet which converts effortlessly in to a Dino Submarine. All he needs now is a mission and it soon comes when Dad tips him off that the citizens of Toy Town have all been kidnapped. This may be Kid Rex’s toughest quest yet and just wait until you meet the villain standing in his way!
A top book for the dino/superhero fans in your life. King Dust Bunny has certainly earned its place as one of our favourite picture book super villains... Max’s bedroom is a shrine to our protagonist’s obsession, Ewen’s illustrations carefully detailing this in to the wallpaper, bedspread and even the embellishments on his chest of drawers. The story itself is a loud tribute to the imagination with Max conjuring the most pedestrian of situations in to one of his extravagant adventures. Adult readers, meantime, will appreciate the extra layer of Dad gently coaxing his child in to some domestic chores by entering their imaginative play. [Black family; family portrait in Max’s room suggests Guyanese origin]. Age 4-7, Paperback 29pp
