Black toddler, in high chair, with bib eats yoghurt (messily!) Dog peers out, right side.

by Ken Wilson-Max

Mummy’s at work. Lenny and Daddy are in the kitchen. Lenny plays with his toys. Daddy, in fluffy slippers, starts to cook up a veggie pasta treat. While the lunch bubbles on the hob, they fit in a quick game of “row, row, row your boat”. Finally the food is ready and Lenny gets busy splashing and slurping, spilling and plopping. Then it’s clean up time and back to playing time.

Familiar everyday activities livened up with the always-present Wilbur the dog and a close family bond. ‘Cute and warm. Gently challenges stereotypes of gender roles and (Black) masculinity. Perfect for an early years setting’ (Patrice, children's/YA author, Letterbox Library reviewer). ‘Simple gentle book. Charming and reinforces idea that mums can work and dads can cook and take care of children’ (Carey, Childminder, Letterbox Library reviewer.) [Black family] Age 2-5, Paperback 24pp
