“You should see my mummy when she marches.

She marches like the beat of a terrific, giant drum.

She marches ferocious and tall, like lightning burning across the open sky.”

A child honours her “marching machine” mum as she leads groups of placard-waving crowds through the streets. Mum tells her that sometimes words are not enough, that sometimes you need to speak with your feet, that you should march for those who can’t. She tells her about a legacy of marching women, her own mum and her grandma too, a legacy she is passing on as this child learns, in turn, to put one foot in front of the other.

‘It’s a book about bravery and speaking with your feet- marching for all who cannot make their voices heard’ (Eileen, Former Primary Teacher, Letterbox Library reviewer). ‘The celebration of peaceful protest -both collective and individual- and caring about issues that affect everyone, not just ourselves, feels timely and necessary’ (Mark Jennett, Equalities Trainer/Consultant, Letterbox Library reviewer). Illustrated by a UK artist of colour and a debut for African American author, Hawkins. [PoC protagonists; wide range of ethnicities & faiths amongst the marchers]. Age 4-7, Hardback 24pp
