Child of colour in red sun hat kneels on beach, facing sea. Seal made of sand next to him plus red bucket/spade.

by Layn Marlow

Every day, Nana and Noah go to the beach, hopeful of seeing the seals. Until then, Noah can build his own sand seal, with shells for its speckly back and “spiky dune grass” for its whiskers. A storm brews up suddenly; Nana and Noah scamper for shelter. When it’s still once more, Noah’s seal has swum away with the waves.. but what’s that out there, in the sea, on the rock?!

A beautiful title which spins a single event in to an atmospheric evocative adventure. The end pages are full of seals bobbing and basking and we always appreciate an active grandparent: Nana is a sailor and a skilled boat-fixer-upper! ‘Love it. Imaginative Noah is charming and gutsy Nana is great’ (Mark Jennett, Equalities Trainer/Consultant, LL reviewer). [Nana and Noah are both people of colour]. Age 4-7, Paperback 24pp
