Two children are outside amongst flowers. One child holds a plant pot. In the background are lots of buzzing bees.

by Helen Mortimer
illustrated by Katie Cottle

It all began with new arrival, Omar, bringing a wedge of Mum's honey cake to show & tell, inspired by his grandpa's beekeeping. Prompted by Omar's story, teacher Mr Ellory-Jones, gets the children to make a bee corridor with scrunchy pink tissue paper...but Omar and Maisie decide that they want to take the corridor outdoors! Soon they are rallying all of Class One to wild-up the local neighbourhood. By summer time, buzzing bees are making the flowers fizz and new pals Maisie and Omar have become 'Momar'. A story of creativity, teamwork, making friends, new beginnings, sustainability and happy bees! Honey cake recipe and bee facts flourish on the end pages...(Extra-nice 'casually inclusive' touches include an ethnically/racially diverse community, disability and gay representations- Mr Ellory-Jones has a husband). 'What a lovely inclusive book with great illustrations. Community involvement, Working together. Yes!' (Rosalind, Workforce Dev. Office, Letterbox Library Reviewer). Age 4-7, Paperback 29pp
