Immediately, on the inside pages, we are greeted with a bold symbol of peace: a tree whose branches carry tags with ‘Peace’ in many different languages and scripts. From there, the book launches into a glorious elaboration of peace, from a simple hug or a smile, to much more nuanced expositions such as “Peace is pronouncing your friend’s name correctly” and “Peace comes from giving far more than you take”.
Rhyming, lilting text with popping-bright digital illustrations by Mexican artist, Meza. Smaller children will enjoy the vivid landscapes populated by children as well as an exciting range of wildlife. A fascinating backnote offers extended thinking for older readers as the creators (themselves affected by what they witnessed during the war in Mozambique as children) discuss how peace is needed to preserve not just humanity but the very foundations of our planet. Ends with a four-page pullout showing children and animals in harmony in a natural environment and a cheerful string of 'Peace' bunting stretching across the pages. ‘A visually splendid primer on peace’ (Kirkus 2021). [Characters with many different skin tones/of different ethnicities; a single disabled child uses crutches]. Age 3-6, Hardback 27pp
