Wonderful rainbow end pages pull the reader in to this kaleidoscopic celebration of family. Two dads help their children and toddler scale a rainbow in order to join them on a Rainbowsaurus-seeking adventure. Along the way, they meet a carnival of creatures who they welcome on board, each one sporting a rainbow colour from a red moo cow to a violet turkey. And so, with an Oink Hiss Ribbit Growl Gobble Moo and then, also, a Quack Buzz Baa Hee-haw Cock-a-doodle-doo, our crew finally encounter the amazing technicoloured Rainbowsaurus. A pounding rhythm, varied font sizes and emphasis and an onomatopoeic chorus give multiple cues for young children to join in. The expansion of the rainbow colours into those of the Progress Flag is a glorious touch. A soaring and radiant hymn to community and kinship. In addition to a happy sign off from the Letterbox Library review team, the co-directors carried out a toddler test with 3-year-old APG and heard the requisite number of chuckles.
