Regular leopard tortoise, Barbara Hendricks, has entered a race. Against actual animals. In just 7 days time. And now, she’s truly regretting it. But her owner and bestie, Lorraine, has every confidence in her. She has banners made and a muscle-building and workout routine for her. Come race day, Barbara Hendricks is clear that today is a “stay-in-my-shell type of day”. Can Lorraine get her to the fun run?

A hilarious little tale (with a twist!) with so much to spot in the mixed-media-art illustrations. We especially enjoyed the chaotic household scenes, the crowd of furries and crawlies at the fun fair and the sheer range of tortoise facial expressions.

‘A brilliant way of exploring anxiety and fear of failure. Lots of humour with a message to just give it a go’ (Kerry, Letterbox Library staff). ‘A really joyful story about overcoming anxiety, supportive friendship and how it’s the taking part that matters. Lovely pics and a witty text’ (Mark, Equalities Trainer/Consultant, Letterbox Library reviewer). [Single parent family of colour]. Age 4-7, Paperback 29pp
