Faces of five children, different skin tones, with accessories to suggest varying jobs (hard hat, stethoscope, tools etc.)

by Melanie Walsh

“When we grow up…what can we be?” This is the launch pad for a simple introduction into a wide range of jobs from firefighters to programmers via mechanics, builders and teachers. Each job is located clearly in the workplace with word labels to introduce the basic tools of each trade. Children are encouraged to imagine themselves in all sorts of jobs and traditional gender barriers crumble away in the face of female mechanics and male dancers. The inside double page spread of children’s faces are transformed at the back as each one is headed up with a job title. ‘Good clear questions. Explanations and ideas for children to explore. Good that girls and or boys can do any job. Lovely range of skin tones and hair styles to identify with’ (Meryl, EY Consultant & Trainer, Letterbox Library reviewer). (nb: wheelchair user vet and musician). Age 3-6, Paperback 24pp
